I somehow got invited to the World Championship of Champions last week. Must have been a glitch in the system, but I went to test out my skills and see if I could fool the competition into thinking I was a world class competitor.

You could really sense the electricity in the air. (Which may have been due to a short in the overhead lighting system…but non-the-less) My first bout was intense…I talked a little strategy with Jose (One of the sponsors of the event and a great guy to know) With help, I was able to make it past the first elimination round. My second draw didn’t turn out as well, I was paired against one of Jose’s good friends “the champ.” (side note: who ended up winning the entire championship) Needless to say, I was quickly removed from competition like a gringo’s first running of the bulls.

From that point I just enjoyed some of the finer points of hanging out with top athletes. FOOD! Fruit Dips, Bruschetta, and my favorite…bacon wrapped lil smokies. (I believe that Lil smoky was one of the major promoters of the event)

The championship bout was held in a separate room. I got in early and got a seat right behind one of the competitors. You could sense the buzz in the room when the lights came on and the competition began. It was definitely an even match. I was just glad I could relax and didn’t have to be “on my game” at this point in the evening. I can’t write more on results since ESPN has full rights, and nothing has been officially released yet. There also should be a front cover and spread in next months “Cribbage World Magazine.” Get a Copy!
